Home Birth Canterbury has two birth pools and pumps available to hire. These are both 'Birth Pool in a Box' pools which are inflatable. For more information about the pools, contact us.

Hire Cost

You can hire your birth pool from Home Birth Canterbury at only:

• $90 for women birthing with a midwife who is a professional member of Home Birth Canterbury (includes liner)

• $130 for women birthing with a midwife who is not a professional member of Home Birth Canterbury (includes liner)

Califonts

We also own three califonts which are able to be hired.

A califont is a gas hot water heater. Save the hot water in your home hot water cylinder for a lovely warm shower after you've given birth, and use a califont to heat up the water for your birth pool!

To use one of these, you will need your own gas. A gas cylinder like you'd use for a BBQ is usually sufficient. Califonts are hired out at $65.

Birth Pool Liners

We can also supply birth pool liners separately for $45 (plus postage if required).

The liners are designed to fit our inflatable 'Birth Pool in a Box' pools. The dimensions of these pools are as follows: 

External dimensions - 193 x 165cm

Internal dimensions - 142 x 114cm

Internal height - 69cm

We do not guarantee that the liners we have available will fit any pools other than  'Birth Pool in a Box' pools. ​

How to hire​

For all pool hire enquiries please email poolhire@canterburyhomebirth.org.nz, including your expected due date.  Availability of pools and califonts is dependent on demand. Get in touch well before your due date to ensure availability.

Hireage is usually available from 37 weeks gestation until you have given birth.
