We work in partnership with women and their families and believe pregnancy and birth are normal life processes. We support women who plan to birth at home and provide care to meet their individual needs. Continuity of midwifery care is an essential part of our philosophy.

Matricaria Midwives are focused on delivering high quality midwifery care in Christchurch and the surrounding areas. A commitment to active, holistic, natural birth that empowers women with a focus on the family is our goal. We have combined total of over 45 years’ experience attending homebirths. We provide a birth pool for those planning a home waterbirth. We are happy to support women desiring a home vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC).

As part of our holistic philosophy, we support birth at home as the safest and most rewarding choice for healthy women. Molly has an extensive background in herbal medicine and natural living, while Ganka has a strong family focus and brings with her a wealth of experience of working with people from other cultures. Joanne has experience in several alternative health modalities, including being a massage therapist. Sabina has a background in movement therapy and is incorporating it in a new approach to antenatal education classes.

We are a couple of very experienced midwives(over 60 years between us!) offering homebirth in the Rangiora and wider North Canterbury region, including Waimakariri and Hurunui. We believe birth is a normal physiological process and strive to maximise the potential to birth without interruption or intervention at home with the support of family/whanau. Homebirthing is empowering for women and is an awesome start to motherhood.
